Annie, Jr.!

This year we are offering registration to students in grades 3-5 ONLY.

Leapin' Lizards! The popular comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” takes center stage in Annie Jr., an adaptation of one of the world's best-loved and most-performed musicals. From the start Annie charms everyone she meets including billionaire Oliver Warbucks and everyone's favorite dog, Sandy. Annie Jr. has a bright, tuneful score which is filled with familiar numbers like "It's the Hard Knock Life" and "Tomorrow." This classic family musical with a heartwarming happy ending will have audiences laughing, crying and singing along.

Casting

This year we will be holding IN-PERSON CASTING again for the first time in over 5 years! Casting will take place Tuesday, February 11th from 3-5pm in the LGI. If you are not able to attend that date, other arrangements will be made. More information on what to prepare will follow. All registered students will be offered a role or multiple roles in the production unless they specifically request to participate in group numbers only.  Casting will be announced by February 24th. Casting is decided solely by KJK, not by the volunteer producers or the PTA. Most roles are shared (i.e. there will be 6 Annie’s, 5 Daddy Warbucks, 7 Miss Hannigans, performing in different scenes in the show) to create an ensemble cast where everyone has something fun to do;  no one cast member will be the star.

By registering, your child agrees to accept his or her role(s) as cast.

FIRST ACT: Cast Meeting and Icebreaker

There will be an optional "meet and greet"and read-through of the script on Wednesday, March 19th from 3-4:30pm at the LGI. This informal session will allow the cast to get to know each other, play some fun theater games, learn about theater etiquette and shake off any nerves before rehearsals begin!

Rehearsals

Mandatory rehearsals take place after school Monday through Friday, March 24-April 4, 2025, 3-5:30pm for Cast A and 5:45 -8pm for Cast B (NO REHEARSAL on the weekend). Please indicate on your registration which cast you prefer.  There is no guarantee that you will be assigned your preferred cast as the PTA strives to create an even distribution of grades and students in the two casts.  This will ensure an amazing experience for all! Please be sure your child can commit to ALL rehearsal dates and times for the entire 2-week program.

Performances

  • Saturday, April 5th at 11am and 2pm for Cast A and
  • Sunday, April 6th at 11am and 2pm for Cast B

Code of Conduct

All students agree to attend EVERY rehearsal for the entire two weeks except in the case of illness. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for travel sports, religious education, doctor’s appointments or ANY OTHER extra curricular activities. Children who miss rehearsals may have their roles replaced at any time.

Our conduct policy is as follows:

  • Children are asked to have a working knowledge of their given lines, plus all songs including chorus numbers prior to the beginning of rehearsals. You will have a month between casting and the start of rehearsals so plenty of time! Children who do not learn their lines may lose them.
  • If a child misses practice for reasons other than illness, KJK Productions has the right to place another child in the part.
  • Children will receive a warning about inappropriate behavior by the Theater Arts coordinator.
  • Parents will receive a telephone call if the behavior or issue does not improve.
  • If the issues do not abate, the parent must agree to attend all remaining rehearsals and performances; or the child will be asked to leave the program.
  • Students and parent volunteers will not be able to use their computers, headphones or cell phones during rehearsals or shows.

These guidelines will be strictly enforced, so please make sure your child and you understand and agree to them; they are for the protection and benefit of all in the community.

Cost of program

Program cost is $130 per student ($105 for siblings). A small number of scholarships are available this year.

You will receive an email confirming your registration; please be patient. Remember: participation is on a first come first served basis and your registration is not complete until payment is made.

Thanks for reading carefully and for supporting Theater Arts at Central!
